Summary: Several drabbles written for the drabble challenge thread at Polar Attraction.
Drabble #1 : Cake
Isabel had organized the clean-up, just as effectively as she had the party. The counters were spotless, all the dishes were dried and put away and other than the small stack of gifts on his coffee table, no trace of the party remained. As usual, she had managed to irritate him with her efficiency.
He almost wished that they had left the mess. Michael had never had a birthday party before. It was one of those things that wasn't mentioned, like most of his time with Hank. He had convinced himself that he wasn't missing anything, like he always did. Maybe, he was wrong.
Michael went to the fridge, and pulled out the leftover cake and set it on the counter. He tore off the filmy plastic wrap and tossed it aside. He could still read the first three letters of his name, in the red icing. He dipped his fingers in the icing, and brought them to his mouth, to lick them clean.
It was sweet.
Drabble #2 : Gift
Michael pursed his lips and scowled as he walked down another aisle of the Wal-Mart. His hands were shoved into the front pockets of his jeans, and he fiddled with the smooth rock that he kept in the right one.
Liz would be off work in about 25 minutes, and he had to find the perfect gift. It was their first anniversary, as a couple, and he knew that chicks made a big deal about that sort of thing. Besides, he really did want to buy something nice for her.
Sometimes, she was so frustrating. Eventually, had figured out that as long as he bought Maria something shiny and expensive, she would be relatively happy - or as happy as she ever was, with something to bitch about. Liz, on the other hand, would be happy with anything he gave her.
That was the problem, he didn't want *anything,* he wanted something special, something she would love. She deserved it; after all, she had already given him the best thing he had ever had - her love.
As he stopped in front of the glass display cases, he smirked. Maybe, shiny and expensive was the way to go after all.
