She didn't know what to say to him when he looked up at her with those wide, bright eyes, as if she could make everything all right. Temperance knew better than anyone that things didn't always turn out right in the end, and things sometimes happened to the people that you loved, no matter how hard you wished it wasn't so. Still, she realized that you couldn't explain things like that to a four year old, even when you couldn't bring yourself to tell an awkward lie. She didn't know for sure that Booth was going to be all right.

All he could think was that she had to be safe. He would not fail her, no matter what the clock said. He needed her in his life - probably, more than she needed him, and definitely more than he was comfortable admitting, even to himself. Temperance was the smartest person that he knew, and if anyone could find a way to defy the odds and survive, it would be her.
He would never stop looking for her, or for the Gravedigger. Booth would show him what pain really was. He would never take what didn't belong to him, again.
